Firewalls, two-factor authentication, or 2FA, and secure backups are all elements of creating a secure system.

Be Prepared Before An Emergency

Back up all important information and data to an external hard drive or another storage device.

Create and maintain a company-wide backup plan. Make sure all users are on the same page.
Regularly update and patch third-party software when updates are available.

Use different, strong passwords for every device and every system. Do not use words or common phrases in your password.

"Paying ransom will not ensure your data is decrypted, or your systems or data will no longer be compromised. CISA, MS-ISAC, and federal law enforcement do not recommend paying a ransom," says the CISA's official ransomware guide ↗️.

Implement a "one-time password token" system into your software to better protect your accounts. If you back up your software often on a device separate from your system, there's no data to lose. If your system is compromised by ransomware, assuming that all your data has been lost is in your best interest. Giving up your system and data is safer than paying a ransom.
